Exquisite 19th-Century French Porcelain Cabinet Miniature – A St. James’s Beauty
A striking 19th-century French hand-painted porcelain miniature, beautifully presented in its original gilt frame. This unusually large example depicts a finely detailed portrait, believed to be inspired by St James's Beauty by John Hoppner, painted in 1783. The quality of the painting is exceptional, with rich colours, delicate brushwork, and a wonderfully expressive subject.
The porcelain portrait is mounted against a silk background and housed within an elegant gilt frame, creating a highly decorative piece that would make a stunning focal point in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The miniature itself measures 15cm in diameter, while the frame measures an impressive 29.5cm square. The silk mount shows some age-related foxing, which is entirely in keeping with its age and adds to its authentic antique character. The porcelain painting remains in excellent condition with no notable damage.
A beautiful and substantial decorative antique, combining fine artistry, craftsmanship, and timeless French elegance.
