French C19 Opera glasses

French 19th century opera glasses presented in their original leather carrying case, both beautifully untouched and rich in period charm. The leather case has developed a wonderfully soft patina from years of careful use, while the interior retains its striking royal blue silk lining, now gently discoloured with age and lifting slightly at one edge. A small hand-embroidered star inside appears to have been added by a previous owner as a charming way to identify their set.
The clasp fastening is a little weak with age, however the original leather carrying handle remains in excellent condition. The opera glasses themselves are in very good working order and focus smoothly and clearly. Crafted from black enamelled brass with leather-covered finger rests, they have acquired the attractive age-related patina expected of an authentic 19th century piece.
A wonderfully tactile and decorative antique, equally suited for display or collection.
