19th Century French Gilt Wire Sculpture – Marriage Dome Fragment
A delicate survivor of 19th-century French wedding tradition, this gilt wire sculpture once nestled beneath the glass of a Globe de Mariée — the treasured “marriage domes” that told the story of a couple’s union. Within these domes, each element was chosen with care: the shimmer of gilt leaves for prosperity, the presence of birds for love and fidelity, and a mirror to reflect the happiness of the life ahead.
This fragment, though just a part of its original setting, holds all the poetry of its past. The gilt wire rises in a crown-like formation, adorned with two graceful birds, golden leaves, and a tiny mirror that still catches the light. Its delicate wire frame, easily shaped, invites it to be placed once more under a dome, set upon a wedding pillow, or simply admired as a jewel-like piece of decorative history.
Measuring 22.5 cm high by 18 cm in diameter, it is a rare and enchanting relic of love, memory, and devotion from 19th-century France.
