Mahogany and flame mahogany canteen

Lovely quality canteen, from mahogany and flame mahogany, brass sheild shaped cartouche, which isn't inscribed but has some areas if wear and damage.
This quality canteen has a lift out tray and is lined with a type of felt and lined on the bottom of the tray and base with a silk type material, all the materials are time worn as it the wood which has a wonderful warmth to it. The carcass of the canteen is barrel fronted which is unusual and suggests a european influence. Circa mid 1800s
Brass hinges all in good working order, Brass lock does not lock and has no key.
